The Girl from Oslo (Bortfort: Israeli-Norwegian)
Synopsis
"Pia, a Norwegian girl and her two Israeli friends on vacation in the Sinai desert are kidnapped by ISIS terrorists, who threaten them with death unless twelve ISIS detainees are released. Her mother, a Norwegian diplomat travels to the Middle East, relying on old friends — and a deep truth — to help free her daughter." [Wikipedia] "While The Girl From Oslo might be partially based on a true story, in large part, the story is made up of fictional dramatizations that add up to a more realistic shell. There are some aspects of reality in the series — like, for example, Bill Clinton’s voiceover about the 1993 Oslo Accord in the beginning — but the characters themselves aren’t based on real people. Still, the show has references to real world happenings: like rulings made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
And the larger story does seem to reflect events from 2013, even if the characters aren’t real people. Around a decade ago, Israeli and Norwegian tourists were feared abducted in Egypt by ISIS. This mirrors the plot of The Girl From Oslo, although the series not officially based on this news story." [Decider.com]
