Synopsis
"The story centres on a family of priests that traces its roots back more than 250 years: Johannes (Lars Mikkelsen), Elisabeth (Ann Eleonora Jørgensen), and their sons, August (Morten Hee Andersen) and Kristian (Simon Sears). Johannes is God-like to his sons – he gives, loves, and punishes. His favouritism for August and his disappointment with Kristian forces both into making desperate choices in order to either gain his love or break free from him. Their path will lead us into war and encounters between different religions, seen through the intimate lens of a family drama." [Wikipedia] Episodes begin with text on screen, e.g., "Thou shalt have no other gods before Me." [Exodus 20:3] "Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the Truth." [3rd episode, Buddha] "We are like the bright moon, we still have our darker side." [7th episode, Kahlil Gibran] "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. [Rev. 21:4]
