Synopsis
"Ten years after witnessing the slaughter of Czar Boris Godunov and his family, servant Andrei (Pyotr Kislov) assumes the identity of his murdered master (Ramón Langa) and embarks on a quest to find the czar's beautiful daughter, Kseniya (Violetta Davydovskaya), who may have survived the massacre. This ravishing historical epic is set against the dramatic backdrop of Russia's Time of Troubles and the Polish-Muscovite War." [Netflix] "The film is based on historical events and includes some fictional elements. According to the anti-Putin opposition coalition The Other Russia, "most of the history [in the film] has been diluted beyond recognition". The movie takes artistic freedom with real events, e.g. contrary to historical fact, Polish troops are thrown back from Moscow, while they actually held the city for two years. Kuzma Minin and Dmitry Pozharsky, who were instrumental in organizing the popular uprising that led to the expulsion of Polish-Lithuanian forces, appear only briefly at the movie's conclusion."
