Synopsis

It's a study of the slow infiltration of the wider world into traditional Bedouin culture. Layla is a university student who falls in love with a fellow student, causing havoc in her family, which has already been disrupted by her father's choice to take a second wife. Both this film and Wadjda, a recent film from Saudi Arabia, explore the efforts of young women to find an alternate path within the confines of patriarchal rules and social pressure.
