Synopsis
"In prerevolutionary Russia, a Jewish peasant contends with marrying off three of his daughters while growing antisemitic sentiment threatens his village." In the prologue, as the fiddler plays on the roof, Tevye says that is it tradition that keeps everything in balance. "Everyone of us knows who he is and what God expects him to do." This is the song that Tevye sings celebrating tradition:

And who has the right, as master of the house,
To have the final word at home?
