Excerpts from Books and Wikipedia
The Code Napoleon established clear laws and had a great influence over France and all of Europe. It was a compromise between revolutionary ideas and the ancien regime. It abolished feudalism. Estates were inherited among all sons, not just the eldest one. Women were given the status of minors. Trade unions were banned. Slavery was reintroduced into the colonies, and police surveillance of workers was allowed. [Furtado: 1001 Days]
