Excerpts from Books and Wikipedia
"When Clive's force of 800 British and 2,200 Indians, accompanied by nine cannon, arrived at the small village and mango grove of Plassey, it was vastly outnumbered by Siraj's 50,000-strong army . . . Even though he had bribed Siraj's uncle and military commander Mir Jafar to quit without fighting, Clive was reluctant to attack." He changed his mind "after a torrential monsoon downpour disabled the Indian guns (they had not covered their powder from the rain) and Siraj's army, as prearranged, fled the field. Clive had 'won' at the cost of some fifty casualties." [Furtado: 1001 Days]
