Christopher Wren was a contemporary of Isaac Newton, Robert Hook, Robert Boyle, Thomas Hobbes, and Henry Purcell. He was a scientist, mathematician, and astronomer. His masterpiece was St. Paul's Cathedral. This cathedral had burned down during the Great Fire of 1666. The cathedral took 36 years to complete. Wren's later work included designs for Kensington Palace, an extension of Hampton Court, and Greenwich Hospital. [Furtado: 1001 Days]
