Excerpts from Books and Wikipedia
"Francis Drake sailed boldly into Cadiz harbor in broad daylight on April 19, 1587, and proceeded to wreak destruction on the ships that were thronging the crowded port. . . . For one and a half days he boarded, bootied, and burned--sinking, torching, or capturing some thirty-seven vessels. . . . Drake's destruction on the voyage home of a single Spanish ship laden with new staves to make wine and food barrels was probably his greatest single contribution to delaying and eventually destroying the Spanish Armada. Historians claim that the action forced the Spaniards to use old and inferior barrels, leading to the rotting of much of the armada's food and drink." [Furtado: 1001 Days]
