Ptolemy was a childhood friend of Alexander. The Ptolemy dynasty lasted 300 years until the Romans captured Egypt. Ptolemy encouraged Greek culture in Egypt and created the Great Library of Alexandria. He was the patron of the founder of geometry, Euclid.
