Roman Emperor Hadrian visited Jerusalem in 130 to view the ruins and rebuild the city. When the Jews learned that he was planning to change the name of the city to Aelia Capitolina and worship Jupiter in the Holy Temple, the rebellion began. After suppressing the revolt, Hadrian renamed Judea, Syria Palestina. Thus the Jewish diaspora from Israel began in 70 and 130 following Roman suppressions of Jewish revolts. The diaspora ended with the creation of the modern state of Israel in 1948. [Furtado: 1001 Days]
