Much of the two million people of Rome were made homeless by the fire. The historian Tacitus witnessed the fire at age 9. He later claimed that 2/3 of the city was destroyed. He also accused Nero of blaming the Christians for causing the fire. Christians were fed to the lions for the first time. [Furtado: 1001 Days]
