Chandra Gupta Maurya acquired a powerful army in the northwest of India following Alexander's death in -323. At age 20, Chandra Gupta established the Mauryan dynasty after conquering Greek satraps in the Punjab. Eventually he ruled most of the Indian subcontinent with his capital at Pataliputra, which was one of the largest cities in the world. His son Bindusara assumed power in -293.
