Excerpts from Books and Wikipedia
"The chief practical influence was the growing practice of conducting post-mortems, which boosted anatomy and pathology at the expense of humoral theory. A landmark was the publication in 1761 by Giovanni Battista Morgagni of Padua of De Sedibus et Causis Morborum per Anatomen Indagatis Libri Quinque (The Seats and Causes of Diseases Investigated by Anatomy in Five Books), which described 640 post-mortems in detail, relating the state of the organs after death to the clinical symptoms displayed during life."
