Excerpts from Books and Wikipedia
"Soon after taking power in 1353 B.C., he rejected the cults of Amun and other gods and made Aten Egypt's supreme deity. His motives were partly political, for he wanted to undermine the powerful priesthood of Amun and set himself up as the revered leader of a new cult. But this controversial 'Sun King' was also a sincere religious reformer, whose exclusive devotion to one god resembled the monotheism of Judaism."
