Rome ruled the Jewish kingdom of Judea after 4 AD. Rebellion to the rule of Emperor Vespasian occurred in 66 and 69. Vespasian sent his son, Titus, to quell the rebellion in Jerusalem. During the siege, tens of thousands of people in Jerusalem died of starvation. Romans entered the Great Temple and burned it to the ground. About 97,000 Jews were captured and used to build the Colosseum in Rome. One of the Jewish leaders was carried to Rome for a triumph and later killed. [Furtado: 1001 Days]
