Excerpts from Books and Wikipedia
"In the course of the night, the Movimento das forcas Armadas (MFA) moved to occupy key points throughout the country. . . . The flowers came to symbolize the revolution, carried out with an almost total lack of violence. Caetano fled to Brazil and a respected officer, General Antonio Spinola, was installed in power. Transition to a new regime would not be easy. Spinola soon fell out with the left-wing MFA, but after a turbulent period the country emerged in 1976 as a liberal democracy." [Furtado: 1001 Days]
