Fall and Rise of China
Synopsis
"China—the world's oldest continuous civilization—has undergone an astonishing transformation in a brief span of recent history. Since the collapse of its once-glorious empire in 1911, China has seen decades of epic turmoil and upheavals, emerging in the new century as both an authoritarian megastate and an economic powerhouse, poised to become an imposing global force." [Great Courses]
Thanks to Dr. Baum for 48 outstanding lectures! Who else could have told this important story with such compassion and curiosity? Having devoted his life to studying Chinese language and culture, Dr. Baum tells this story with a lot of energy, and his well-organized lectures are filled with facts, maps, and photos. I especially liked the photos of leaders shown with the spelling of their names. I loved his personal notes and his commitment to presenting these priceless lectures.
