Synopsis
"Penn (Encyclopedia of Geographical Features in World History) has produced a well-researched reference work covering the major rivers of the world in their physical, cultural, and environmental settings. Arranged alphabetically and ranging from 250 to 2000 words, the 192 entries cover the major rivers of the world e.g., the Nile, Niger, Mississippi, Amazon, and Yangtze and many smaller ones. Each entry begins with information on the source of the river, its length, and its major tributaries, followed by a discussion of the physical, economical, historical, political, and environmental character of each river. Most entries contain references for further reading and cross references when applicable. Maps of each continent and its major rivers introduce the work . . ." [LIbrary Journal]
